The first Seventy-seven (77,000) successful applicants of the Jamaican government’s reverse income tax credit initiative are to receive their 20,000 dollar payment this week.
The update was provided by outgoing Minister of Finance, Dr. Nigel Clarke, in Parliament, as he responded to tributes paid to him by his colleagues in the House of Representatives.
“If you go to a remittance agency to collect, you have to have a valid Government ID, a passport, drivers’ licence or voters’ ID. If you’re a person with a disability you can authorise someone to collect (for you) with a letter signed by a JP (justice of the peace). The letter must have the application reference number, TRN, the beneficiary ID and other relevant information,” Clarke said.
Clarke noted that the individuals who are the first batch of 261,000 applicants approved for the grant will be notified once the payments have been made.
The tax giveback is a one-time payment of $20,000 to eligible taxpayers earning below $3 million, with an estimated 580,000 individuals slated to benefit.
Dr. Clarke said the remaining payments will be made by year end.
Applications for the one off reverse income tax credit remain open until December 2.
