Dance Hall veteran turned gospel artiste Lieutenant Stitchie has received a boost towards his health recovery efforts with a donation of $150,000.
This was made possible through the The fundraising efforts of the Sterling Gospel Music Awards.
The dancehall legend whose given name is Cleve Laing, is currently hospitalised in Kingston after suffering a debilitating stroke recently.
The funds were handed over to his wife Sophia at the ceremony on Thursday afternoon. “It’s tougher than steel right now,” “It is indeed hard. Hard is not even the adjective right now. This is really hard for us right now,” she said.
“He is more alert than he has ever been. We give God thanks for that. No words, nothing verbal, but he’s moving his lips as if he wants to respond.
It’s no words, but we give God thanks,” she added, while expressing gratitude to those who have donated.
Recently, dancehall stars Bounty Killer and Shaggy joined forces to donate $10,000 USD to help with Stitchie's medical expenses.
A Go Fund Me initiative was launched in September with the aim of raising US$100, 000.
As of Thursday October 17, a total of $22, 510 has been raised.
