"Bunny" Shaw back In Reggae Girlz squad to face South Africa

Star Manchester City striker Khadija "Bunny" Shaw has been called up to the Reggae Girlz 23 member squad to face South Africa in two friendly internationals in Montego Bay next week.


Shaw who missed last month's friendly against France due to passport issues, last represented Jamaica in September 2023 against Canada.


The first assignment for the Reggae Girlz since November 2022 when they beat Paraguay 1 nil, also see the squad including Konya Plummer who also missed out against France.


Shaw has been in sparkling form for her club, having an incredible 2023-24 WSL campaign, as she ended the season as the league's top scorer with 21 goals—including three hat tricks and three assists in just 18 appearances - Her achievements saw her winning the PFA Women's Player of the year.


This was in addition to being named the Golden Boot winner, as well as being named Player of the Year at the Women’s Football Awards.


She has carried over her form into the 2024/25 season having already scored 10 goals from 10 appearances.


Meanwhile, 25-year-old Taylor Hinds the captain of Liverpool who made her debut against France last month, has not been included in the squad that has two local based players in Destiny Powell and Davia Richards.


The 24 member squad to face South Africa reads Goalkeepers: Rebecca Spencer and Liya Brooks


Defenders: Allyson Swaby, Konya Plummer, Naya Cardoza, Vyan Simpson, Chantelle Swaby, Deneisha Blackwood, and Siobhan Wilson.


Forwards: Khadija Shaw, Jody Brown, Kayla McKenna, Davia Richards, Shania Hayles, Shaniel Buckley, Tiffany Cameron.


The first game against South Africa will be played on November 29, and the second game also at the Catherine Hall Stadium will be on December 2.


The last time the Reggae Girlz played South Africa was on April 7, 2019 in Durban and the match ended 1-1.
