Jamaican student athletes coming for the Penn Relays, and those taking up scholarships, must be careful with who they are associating with, in what is perceived to be difficult times in the United States.

With the Donald Trump administration going full speed ahead with its policies re going after illegal immigrants, its imperative that the welfare of athletes are taking care of while being in the country.

Jamaican track and field agent Eroll Walters, says a consultation must be had between the Heads of schools, the Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association (JAAA), and Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA,) to alert student athletes what they need to do if they are confronted and detained by US law enforcement officers and what help is available to them.

With the Penn Relays taking place in Philadelphia between April 24 and 26, over 30 schools and institutions will be coming from Jamaica, and Walters who is the manager for Jamaican Olympian Malik James King, pointed out that student athletes must make sure they don't go off route and be precise as to the reason they are in the US.
