Former National footballer Wayne Palmer is on cloud nine, after he was honoured by Jamaica College at the 31st staging of the Pure Water JC R Danny Williams Track and Field Development Meet on Saturday January 3 at the Ashenhiem Stadium.
Palmer who came to JC as assistant coach to Alfred Henry for the Manning Cup team in 2006, was honoured for his tireless efforts as a member of the Jamaica College Football Programme for the past 18 years.
The 56 year old worked closely with Henry as the Old Hope Road based institution won the Manning Cup and Olivier Shield and broke a 33 year drought in 2007.
The following year in 2008, he took charge of the Under 14 team and went on to win a staggering 16 ISSA titles.
He won the Urban and All Island titles in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022.
In his playing days, Palmer represented St Andrew Technical in the Manning Cup and All Schools team from 1985 to 86.
He joined Cavalier FC in 1987 and was named Junior Player of the year in the national Premier league the same year.
In 1988, he played for Port Morant United in the National Premier League. He subsequently represented other teams including Galaxy FC out of Clarendon, Taurus FC out of Portland.
He made his National Senior debut in 1990 and was a member of the team that won the Shell Caribbean Cup in 1991.
He was also a part of the Reggae Boyz journey as they qualified for the 1998 World Cup in France.
After calling time on his playing career, he went into coaching and he led Maverly/Hughenden Women's to the Sherwin Williams knock out Championship before joining the Jamaica College coaching staff and the rest they said is history.
Among some of the players he guided over the years are: Junior Flemmings, Dominic James, Donovan Segree, Tarik Ximines, Shaniel Thomas and Demario Phillips.
